Whether you’re planning a solo road trip or going on one with a group of friends it stands to reason you are going to want to try and ensure that the whole thing goes as smooth as possible. It may not be possible to cover for everything but being organised before you travel certainly helps – here are some things to consider before going on a road trip.

Getting Your Documents in Order

Whether you’re going abroad or sticking with the UK it is a good idea to have your documents in order. This means checking this like your passport and making sure you have some form of photo ID. Checking everything is in order for your vehicle is a must too – for example, does it need a new MOT? Should you consider breakdown cover? Things like motorhome insurance are definitely something to make sure you look into and have in place too.

Packing The Essentials

It is all well and good packing for a holiday, but if a big chunk of that holiday is going to be in a motorhome or vehicle then packing essentials for this should be considered essential. Things like a first aid kit, spare tyre and a basic vehicle repair kit are a must. You will probably also want to look at phone chargers, spare batteries and sat navs just to make sure that you’re as prepared as possible. Checking oil and water levels in the car should definitely be considered essential too!

Planning Your Journey

You may well be going on a YOLO trip and not want to do to much organising, which is fine – we all love the spontaneous life. However, it is wise to at least have an idea of things you would like to see or experience while you are there – this gives you some idea of your travel plans and helps you research things like petrol stations and hotels in advance, ensuring that you have everything sorted before you leave for your big trip. The great news is that there is always something for people to do, film fans can look up things like a walking tour themed around Derry Girls or a Game of Thrones guided studio tour, those that like the beach can head to the coast or this seeking a night out can head to the right places too!

Being organised for a road trip isn’t about taking away the fine, it’s more to do with making sure that you have everything in place to allow your trip to be as fun-filled as possible and that your fun isn’t haltered by flat tyres or not having the right ID too much while you’re away.
