If you’re a parent that is in charge of their child’s education then you might be happy to know that it’s easy to use the internet to boost your teaching. In fact, if you’re a teacher or simply a parent that ways to be more involved in the way their child learns then you’ll be glad to know that the internet is full of information and resources. The great news is that these are often easily accessible and affordable, so when it comes to boosting your teaching resources you shouldn’t have too much of a struggle on your hands.
Make use of Free Resources
The internet is full of ways that you can boost your teaching that isn’t going to cost you too much at all. For example, you can make use of things like BBC Bitesize and YouTube. Although YouTube might not be an official educational channel there are plenty of people that share their knowledge on all sorts of subjects via video social media. This is great for those that way to mix up the way they are teaching because watching videos can often be better at keeping attention than just working through pages of questions.
Teaching Resources
Just because you’re a parent and not someone that works as a teacher, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t approach things in the same way. Making use of teaching resources such as the Teacher Club Card by Creative Fabrica is a great example. Creative Fabrica offers a range of digital resources for all sorts of things including arts and crafts. However, what they have put together is an amazing teaching resource.

Once you sign up to be a member (and there’s a one-month free trial too!) you get access to over 12,000 teaching resources. These are things like quizzes, worksheets and even lesson planners to help keep you on track. You’re able to download up to 5 of these for your teaching use each week.
It is easy to assume that being able to use 260 teaching resources would cost you a handsome figure. However, actually, their current subscription cost is only £2.99/year. When you consider that it can cost more than that for a cup of coffee it really is exceptional value for money. If it sounds like something you want to know more about, sign up here.

Encourage Research
When it comes to using the internet to encourage learning, it isn’t just what you can use the internet for. Once children are old enough to access the internet and you approach that in a sensible way, there is nothing wrong with giving them a task and asking them to use the internet to research the answer. There’s not much you can’t find online these days and as they get older and exam periods start there will be plenty that they need to research themselves, so starting this when they are a bit younger is highly recommended.
Of course, you might want to talk to them about how to use the internet safety first and you’ll definitely want to keep an eye on things but in general, using the internet to research topics and boost their own learning is only a positive thing.
It is important to remember that children all learn in different ways. Using the internet to access different learning resources and being able to mix up the way you are teaching is a great way to motivate children to learn. This means that they find learning more fun, you’ll find it easier to teach them and in general, everyone has a better time.
If you have any ideas for using the internet to boost your teaching we would love you to share them below.
