They say that if you find a job you love then you never truly work a day in your life. However, whilst that can be a nice dream the truth is that for most of us working a job that we’re not absolutely in love with is normal. Ask yourself, are you in a job you love?
Markel Direct recently published some interesting results on the current UK job market and what sort of working life people are looking to live now. The truth is that for many full-time workers, the likes of the pandemic changed things for them and made them see their priorities differently – and this includes working life. Markel Direct looked at the number of people that are resigning from jobs currently and of course, what could be driving so many people to want to take the leap from their current employer to something new.
New Priorities
Things that will always drive people to look for new work include a change in circumstances and a change in priorities. During 2020 and 2021 many people were given the opportunity to work from home and this shift in work/life balance is something that many people relished and want to continue. Hybrid working and working from home is becoming a much more popular prospect and jobs that don’t offer this may find that their employees jump ship to work with a company that do offer a more flexible way of working. Trying New Things
One thing that 2022 has bought is us education around what we can achieve when working – and how we should be grabbing every opportunity. For many people who aren’t in a job they love, the possibility of going it alone and becoming self-employed while doing something they love and setting themselves up in business. Being a freelancer, opening your own shop or offering your services as a sole trader all seem much more in reach than they once did – because people online are sharing their success stories and encouraging others to do the same.
Flexibility
Rob Rees, the Divisional Director of Markel Direct talked about the growth of ‘digital nomads‘ and how people will want to combine different opportunities with working life – for example, people may want to go travelling whilst continuing to work – for example, seeking out co-working hubs and coffee shops to work whilst continuing their travel plans.
The truth is that if you’re not loving your work, there are different opportunities open to you & 2022 seems to be the year where people are more likely to make the jump into something – Are you in a job you love?
