Whether you have been working from home for a while, it’s something you’re just getting started with or you’re interested in how to make working from home easier in the long-run, here are some tips for working from home. Remote working is proving more popular and those that are interested in working from home tend to jump at the chance, but it can be a bit of an adjustment so here’s how to make life a little easier.
Get Into a Routine
When you work from home it can be tempting to simply roll out of bed and walk to your desk to get started – taking full advantage of the extra short commute! However, this doesn’t really set you up for the best possible working day; you’ll be half asleep for starters! Instead, try to get into a routine where you wake up in plenty of time, get some breakfast and approach work in a wide-awake, ready to go state,
Sort Out a Sensible Work Area
If you are going to be working from home long term then balancing your laptop on your knees in bed or sitting on the sofa to work while you watch a film is not the most sensible. Whether you have space for an office room or you’re just working from your dining table do your best to arrange a suitable work area, with a sturdy desk and comfortable seating. Comfortable seating is always a good idea too – invest in something like a beanbag or office chair, depending on the nature of your work and how you’ll be spending your working day.
Take Breaks
Just because you are at home and don’t have friends to socialise with does not mean that you should skip breaks and work yourself to the bone. Remember to take regular breaks and where possible go outside for a walk around the block and get some fresh air.
Use It To Your Advantage
While you’re working from home you should absolutely take it to your advantage – get some dinner prepped in between emails or quickly hang out some washing. Just ensure that it doesn’t effect your productivity and you’ll be fine to get some sneaky household chores done; making life easier all around.
