To fully understand what a child studies each week can really help them know when they can turn to you for support. It can go a long way towards helping you and your child learn to bond, develop a good relationship together and also be aware of each other’s strengths and weaknesses. To help you become more involved in your child’s education and development as they traverse the education system, here are some top tips from this Surrey girls school.

Ask how your child is doing every day

It’s nice to have someone to talk to when you come back from school after a long day. For children it can take a lot of weight off their shoulders if they have a place they feel they can vent in. Talk to them regularly about their day and how they got on. See if they found any particular parts of the day exciting or even boring. It’s more about gauging what your child loves to take part in and what they could end up avoiding in the future.

At dinner time, ask your child 3 things they enjoyed about school

To make things a bit more fun and engaging for your child, you can look at 3 things your child had fun doing in their day at school. This kind of exercise teaches your child about the benefits of thinking positively, while also trying to look on the bright side of things even when it doesn’t feel that way. To have a good mindset with your studies you’ll be able to focus on the areas that don’t feel as daunting. As a parent you’re also coming to understand your child’s needs and preferences at a young age.

Take part in parent’s evenings

These are really important for parents to attend. For one they are the best time to have a look through your child’s work and see if there are any questions or concerns about your child’s progress. You also have the chance to discuss what’s coming up in each element of the curriculum so that your child can prepare in advance for what’s to come.

Get involved in school activities

While not directly related to a child’s work, you can find out a lot about a school’s culture and way of working through regular events and concerts. Schools use these events as an opportunity to show off what their children have been learning and become a greater part of the community spirit.
