If you’re anything like us there are rooms in your home that don’t always feel quite right – sometimes this can be a room that is too big & you’re not sure how to sensibly feel the space and others its rooms that are too small and feel cramped. Today, we’re going to help with the second problem and look at how to make your rooms look bigger.
Storage Options
Without a doubt, sensible storage is one of the best ways to help a room feel bigger. When you have a room full of clutter it is always going to feel cramped, even if the room is a perfectly acceptable size. These days there are an array of storage options available to us which means that getting something that is perfect for your needs doesn’t need to be a chore. For example, a coffee table with built-in storage or kallax-style units that can go against a wall and help with storing plenty of items.

Colours on the Walls
Although the decor choices in your home should absolutely be down to personal preference & colour choices, in smaller rooms it’s definitely worth considering the effect the colour can have on how the room feels. Generally speaking, lighter colours tend to make a room feel more open and therefore feel bigger – which means if you’re looking at ways to make your rooms look bigger then considering lighter shades for the walls is recommended.
Dressing Your Windows
When a room is smaller, letting in as much natural light as possible is always a must as this creates the illusion of space. Thick, dark curtains can make a room feel closed in, which is something you want to avoid if you are trying to make a room feel more spacious. Instead, things like window shutters are a great investment. Custom–made ones are ideal because they’re created made to measure for your windows and therefore fit seamlessly within the window frame & don’t take up any extra space. With so many styles on offer, you can go for a decorative window covering to add to the overall look of your room and they work for any room in the house – even the kitchen!

Lighting & Mirrors
Mirrors placed in the right place within a room can help to create the illusion of more space, especially if it is teamed up with the right lighting. If a room is on the small side then you want the room to be as light as possible as this really does make it feel bigger. Although natural lighting is ideal, some lamps around the room rather than one big light for the room can help, as it means that all the corners of the room are lit. Use a nearby mirror to help bound the light around the room and you’ll soon find that your room feels bigger, with minimal effort!
