We have loved this summer, maybe more than previous summers. Possibly born from a reawakening of our love for the outdoors and freedom that felt so removed during the previous year’s Covid 19 lockdowns, this year we have made the most of the great outdoors and nature’s beautiful scenery. Now Autumn is here we are putting together our thoughts for keeping the outdoor spirit alive through winter and we have come up with a few ideas.

Bring A Little Of The Outdoors Inside

With a view to keeping the wonderful natural imagery going in our daily outlook, we are looking at ways we can incorporate some plant life into our home. A few pot plants may seem easy, but we have pets and central heating that have seen off previous efforts, this time will be different as we have discovered a brilliant way of beautifully incorporating plants that have a high chance of survival in our decor with other natural elements that help with ensuring an environment they will thrive in.

Problem 1

Our pets tend to investigate any compost or earth they find, it seems not only do they do this outside, but if a pot plant is indoors, they will investigate this too.

Problem 2

Plants don’t tend to like the warmer, dryer environment within a home, the soil dries out and then the plants wither.

An Elegant Solution

To solve both problems we have come up with an elegant natural solution. By making an indoor rockery by selecting beautiful pebbles from Stones4gardens we can cover the exposed earth or compost within the plant pots, this has 3 great benefits, it not only enhances the plants and brings to life their aesthetic appeal against the beautiful pebbles, it stops the pets investigating the soil and retains the moisture within it to do what we’ve put it there to do and keep our plants happy and hydrated.

Taking this little visual trick of a few plants and beautiful natural materials that reminds us so much of the freedom of outdoors, we can take ourselves there visually in other areas of the house with only a few carefully chosen pebbles replacing some of those ornaments we all have been brought as presents, but really don’t suit our homes smooth modern aspirations. These little flourishes of green can work as well in small spaces and plants like Cactuses lend themselves well to this and always remind us of our outdoor spirit.

A Larger Feature

For those wanting a central feature that brings together the beauty of natural pebbles and combines it with a flourish of succulent foliage, consider using a gabion basket to contain and form your pebbles into one of the striking shapes available and add a low-maintenance plant of your choice to hint at the nature awaiting you outdoors from the comfort of your own warm home. With a few careful choices as we head to winter, it will be easy to uphold our outdoor spirit until the welcome spring is here again.
